Over 600 Electric Vehicles Registered in 2023

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced a significant milestone in its efforts to promote sustainable transportation, with over 600 electric vehicles (EVs) registered in 2023. This achievement was highlighted by Mr. Peng Ponea, the Minister of Public Works and Transport, during the ministry's annual review and planning meeting held on February 28, 2024.

In his address, Minister Ponea revealed that the total vehicle registrations for the year amounted to 600,000, underscoring the growing interest in electric vehicles among Cambodians. Since 1990, the country has registered a cumulative total of 1,335 EVs, marking a steady increase in the adoption of cleaner, more sustainable modes of transportation.

The Minister also emphasized the government's commitment to enhancing the EV infrastructure across the country. To date, the Ministry has successfully established 18 electric vehicle charging stations nationwide, with plans to expand this network into remote provinces and along major national roads. This expansion aims to facilitate easier access to charging facilities for EV users, thereby encouraging more people to consider electric vehicles as a viable and environmentally friendly transportation option.

The Royal Government of Cambodia, through the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, is dedicated to supporting the shift towards electric vehicles as part of its broader environmental and sustainable development goals. By increasing the availability of charging stations and promoting the use of EVs, Cambodia is taking important steps towards reducing pollution and fostering a greener future.
